Martin Straus - Ownbiz profile Martin Straus, AssocMCIWM (Associate Member, Chartered Institution of Waste Management) has several years' experience of cost management including telecommunications (landline & mobile), electricity, gas and waste management. Waste management is a particular specialisation, including recycling, baling and compaction. In view of recent changes in legislation, waste management is becoming an increasingly important overhead category.

Prior to joining Auditel, he was for 3 years Business Development Manager of a UK-wide Cost Reduction Consultancy/Members' Buying Group.

From 1988-2000 he was a Wine Consultant, which included acting for the Association of Licensed Free Traders, identifying opportunities for overhead cost reduction. His varied activities included Group Training, especially in wine-related topics. In the 80's he worked for Hedges & Butler (Bass Group) with a successful sales career which culminated in the position of National Accounts Manager for hotels, restaurants and pubs. In the 70's he was a Commercial Insurance Broker, which provided valuable experience for his current work as a Cost Management Consultant.

Martin joined the Institute of Directors in 1973, and has been an Honorary Life Fellow for over 20 years. He is a Branch Committee Member of the S.E. Midlands Branch. He is also founder and chairman of the prestigious 4-6 Club, a networking group comprising 2 IoD branches and Bedfordshire/Luton Chamber.

He is Chairman of Bedfordshire Ecademy and Immediate Past Chairman of St Albans BRE (Business Referral Exchange),

He was one of the youngest ever Branch Secretaries of the British Institute of Management in the late 70's. His interests include Rotary (Founder and Past President of the Rotary Club of St Albans Priory). He is a Past Chairman of St Albans Round Table, and he enjoys wine and food.
